Clinical Observation on 98 Cases of Bronchial Asthma in Ko - Je Island

Abstract
Clinical observation was performed on 98 cases of bronchial asthma, visited to Geon-Gang Clinic in Ko-Je Island from April, 1974 to April, 1975.
The results were as follows:
1. Fifty cases of 98 asthma patients were male and 48 cases were female. The peak age incidence was between fourth and fifth decade (40.9%) and male to female ratio was approximately same.
2. The most cases of the onset-of asthma were found below third decade and the peak age in the onset was below first decade (28.5%).
3. In seasonal distribution, perennial type (61.2%) was more frequent than seasonal type (38.8%).
4. The most cases of duration of illness were 10 years (74.5%).
5. Asthma attack was most common at night of the day.
6. The most cases of the duration of the attacks were over 24 hours (46.9%).
7. Degree of relieveness during the interval between asthma attacks were relieved completely in 61.2%.
8. Fifty six cases of 98 asthma patients (57.1%) had other allergic disorder and among them utricaria was most common.
9. Twenty six cases (26.5%) had family allergic history.
10. Frequency of precipitating or aggravating factors in bronchial asthma was in order of weather changes (53.1%), emotional tension (22.5%) and smoke (17.4%).
11. Total eosinophil count of 250/mm3 or more was seen in 7 cases out of 39 (17.9%) in control group while it was in 78 cases among 98 (79.6%) in asthma group.
12. In therapeutic response to bronchodilators, sixty cases (61.2%) were good response, thirty two cases (32.7%) were fair response and 6 cases (6.1 %) were poor response.
